Spaniel

This working cocker was painted in acrylic, but in a slightly more loose style. I chose to focus on the brushstrokes and mark making to give the painting some movement. I used a limited palette of colours, blacks and whites with touches of yellow ochre and a spot or two of ultramarine blue mixed in to give the blackness of the fur some extra depth.

Linen boards are one of my favourite meduims as they feel much less stark (and daunting) to paint on. They lend themselves so well to the majority of animal paintings without having to overthink background detail and colouring. Allowing me to focus solely on the subject and keeping them firmly the centre of attention. They are also thin enough to allow easy framing in most shop bought frames, and so cutting the expense of bespoke framing services.
